CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Rozia Lalonde
Age: 13
Subject taught: n/a
Canon: Here is the original canon.
The main difference between canon and this AU is that the trolls and humans have been switched - the four kids are now trolls and the twelve trolls are now human.
This changes the kids' circumstances substantially, adding additional pressures and dangers to their life outside of the oncoming storm that is Sgurb; for example, Rozia is now the heir apparent to the Alternian Empire.
The consequences of this role has a huge impact on Rozia's upbringing. When she was very young she was nearly assassinated by agents sent by the Condesce to terminate an up and coming threat, and while she managed to survive with the help of her lusus (the Rift's Carbuncle and an emissary to the major horrorterrors) she didn't escape completely unscathed. The agents had cut off her face fins with the intention of bringing them back to their ship as a trophy of slaughtering an heiress, an action which left Rozia with scars on her face and a serious chip on her shoulder regarding the current empress and her trappings of rule.
For several years Rozia grows up uneventfully for a troll; she never leaves the water (land is for chumps) and forces the lower-blooded seadwelling trolls to fulfill the purpose of their caste and slaughter lusii in order to feed Gl'bgolyb and keep her from destroying the world with her voice. She remains isolated from much of the world, spending the majority of her time deep down in the ocean communing with her lusus and the horrorterrors which she serves.
Eventually Rozia agrees to become an emissary to the horrorterrors herself, at which point they begin to whisper directly into her mind and tell her what she needs to do in order to prepare for Sgrub and the coming destruction of her race. They don't inform her of specifics, but she's well aware that a great cataclysm is coming and she needs to take action in order to ensure that she and the few trolls she's grown fond of survive.
To this end she blackmails Daevit (who is mutant-blooded) into carrying out various tasks on land in order to get Sgrub up and running. With the help of Jeiden, who has been dreaming on Prospit her whole life and has the skills needed to translate and stitch together something coherent from the information Rozia and Daevit provide her, the game is soon up and ready to be played.
The four trolls enter the Medium and power through the game, although Rozia spends most of her time fucking things up and twisting events to the horrorterror' favor rather than useful things like helping with the frog breeding or exploring the mythology of her planet and role. All the same the four face off against the Black King and just barely defeat him, winning the game and preparing to collect their prize of one (1) shiny new universe ripe for the ruling.
And then everything goes to shit.
Just like in canon, the actions of the human session come to bear on the trolls and lock them out of their home universe and send them into hiding in the Veil to avoid the wrath of Jack Noir. After discovering the humans and initiating communication with them, Rozia is pissed beyond all measure, blaming them for the futility of their session and their current predicament. As such she desires nothing less than the complete eradication of all twelve humans, preferably by her own hands.
It's. Not the healthiest state of mind to be in while sitting on a meteor and waiting for an angry god to show up and shank you.
Canon point: While in the Veil, after the trolls have been conversing with the kids for a significant amount of time but before she goes grimdark.
Personality:
Rozia is in many ways very similar to her human counterpart. She has all of the core traits and interests - however, her upbringing has twisted them in ways completely different from Rose Lalonde.
Much like Rose, Rozia is an incredibly intelligent girl who can ramble on in dense language if she doesn't check herself. However unlike Rose she's rather arrogant about her intellect and looks down upon people who can't keep up with her; Rozia believes in merit rather than caste, but feels that even with this modified way of classifying people she's still at the top of the heap. Although she's never forthright about this bias (although she has no trouble telling someone when she believes they're an idiot) the feeling of smug superiority permeates a large amount of her conversations.
Rozia's lusus required constant feeding in order to remain docile and relatively complacent, and this along with her precarious position as an eventual rival to the Imperious Condescension spurred Rozia to develop a penchant for manipulating people far beyond what Rose had ever displayed. She defines people first and foremost by how useful they could be to her either now or in the future upon meeting them, and has no trouble with forceful coercions or blackmail in order to achieve her goals. In her eyes the ends justify the means, and the things she needs done are more than worth the strong-arming she needs to do on occasion.
Trolls are, by nature, a violent and unpredictable species; the further up the hemopsectrum a troll is the more unbalanced they typically are. Rozia's position as a seadweller has amplified her natural destructive nature considerably - whereas Rose had self-set boundaries even as she was tearing up her planet in the Medium, Rozia sees no reason to limit herself in such a way. She believes in a scorched earth policy as well as brutalizing the people that stand in her way. Rozia is not a girl who forgives easily (if at all) and will hold a grudge much longer than is healthy.
Despite her overwhelming cynicism, when Rozia feels loyal to someone it is an unshakeable bond. Unlike her human counterpart she has no qualms with serving the horrorterrors, having been raised by one and grown up communicating with them. Their voices are constantly in her mind, either in the form of whispers in her peripheral or a louder call when they particularly wish to be heard. She's opened herself up to the dark forces much more than Rose ever did, and as such is more vulnerable to their machinations - should the horrorterrors ever decide to 'help' her and send her into the throes of grimdarkness she won't be able to control her own body like Rose did, and would instead be a subconscious prisoner in her own mind.
Underneath the multitude of defense mechanisms and mental walls thrown up, however, are a good deal of the softer traits Rose possesses. Although she is a girl who is fiercely independent and prides herself on relying on no one but herself for survival, she finds to her horror that she might have actually grown attached to the other three trolls that make up her session.
These feelings of affection and friendship are alien to her, as she doesn't make a habit of practicing them and instead actively tramples down on them. Uncomfortable with her emotions and unwilling to acknowledge that she might actually consider the others friends, she simply ignores the matter entirely rather than confront it. However, she's unable to fully quash her sensitive side; her attachment to her friends emerges as a monstrous protectiveness towards them - any perceived threats are dealt with siwftly and brutally, although Rozia takes great pains to ensure that no one ever finds that she had a hand in the matter.
Feelings, after all, are weakness. And an heiress is never weak.
